Proposal to merge Wingate Infant and Wingate Junior schools

We are proposing to merge Wingate Infant and Wingate Junior schools into one primary school on existing school sites from 1 September 2018.

Why has this been proposed?

We are aiming to move towards a model of 'all through' primary schools instead of separate infant and junior schools where it is practicable to do so. All schools must be viable and sustainable for the long term as well as being able to respond to 'growth'.

In line with this strategic objective, we are consulting on a proposal to merge Wingate Infant and Junior Schools into one primary school (age 4-11) on the existing school sites from 1 September 2018. Merging the schools will lead to a larger and more viable education establishment.

Decision

At the meeting of 15 March 2018, our Cabinet in its role as decision maker agreed the proposal to merge Wingate Infant and Junior Schools into a primary school in in the existing premises of the two schools with effect from 1 September 2018.

The reasons given for agreeing the proposal were that it will enhance education provision in Wingate, and it will provide a more viable establishment for the long term and will provide educational benefits that separate infant and junior schools do not.
