Consultation on Durham City Sustainable Transport Delivery Plan 2018 - 2035

We are seeking views on the draft Durham City Sustainable Transport Delivery Plan. The Delivery Plan looks at Durham City's future for a Sustainable Transport Network which includes an increase in bus use, cycling and walking.

The draft Durham City Sustainable Delivery Plan 2018-35 sets out how we want to improve the entire transport network across the city.

The draft delivery plan seeks to enhance the transport networks and services within Durham City to help make the city a world class place where people can move around for work, for education, to access healthcare and other services that will improve the quality of life, and to access the social and cultural opportunities that Durham City offers, while protecting and enhancing its unique historic and natural environment. It also presents an important opportunity to:

  • make a major change in sustainable transport across the city
  • help shape the future development of the city by influencing the local plan for County Durham and the neighbourhood plan for Durham City. Both of which are currently being prepared.

The plan sets out how investing in transport and creating better spaces can provide economic, health and environmental benefits for the city and its residents. It also presents a transport framework for different areas across the City to tackle issues of congestion, air quality, safety and the health of the local community by increasing the number of journeys undertaken by sustainable transport including bus, cycling and walking.

The Delivery Plan has been informed by extensive consultation in 2016 and has been updated to reflect the outcomes of the consultation.
