Flu and immunisation

Description: This session supports the national campaign to increase flu awareness and will provide practitioners with key information to share with families.

Reflecting on transitions

Description: Transitions mean change and for some children change can disrupt their ability to learn. As we continue to navigate our way through COVID19, this session will reflect on the transitions that occur throughout the day, how change can impact on the child's wellbeing and how to support the unique child.

Connecting with nature - the richness of outdoors

Course code:  CMD602

Description: As we return to a new normal, many researchers recommend that children spend a greater part of their day outdoors. What are your plans for ensuring  this happens for the children in your setting and how can we encourage children to foster a love of nature? This session explores how the simplest of experiences are rich in learning and focuses on how we can support children to freely play in a natural environment.

An introduction to the Healthy Start voucher scheme

Description: This session will provide an overview of the Healthy Start voucher scheme and explore the ways in which childminders can promote this important scheme to families. The scheme is part of a national agenda which supports some families to access a wide range of healthy nutritious foods.

Nurturing learning through rich, everyday routines

Course code:  CMD604

Description: We often rush through the day, giving importance to 'the next thing'...but what if we shifted our thinking, slowed the pace a little and valued our rhythms and routines more? This informal, hands-on session will unpick the raft of learning potential and explore a variety of resources and thinking that can be used to enhance rhythms and routines further. This will form part of your curriculum under the new Ofsted framework. A workbook will form part of the session.

Second hand smoke

Description: This session supports our work with Public Health and the Best Start in Life programme.  It will focus on the impact of second hand smoke on the physical development of young children.

Leadership post COVID19 - looking at leadership through a different lens

Description: These sessions will explore leadership theories and strategies.  They will equip childminders with effective skills to develop their team and support their leadership confidence.

Ofsted returning to normal, what can we expect?

Description: Inspections will begin again but what will they look like? This session will guide you through what will happen during future inspections. The session will look at the Ofsted framework and focus on preparing leaders for inspection, practice and action planning.

Designated Safeguarding Leads network

Making Every Contact Count (MECC)

Description: This session will provide practitioners with the skills and knowledge to support individuals with health and wellbeing and provides information on where to signpost people for help. MECC is an approach to behaviour change that utilises the millions of day to day interactions that organisations and people have with other people to support them in making positive changes to the physical and metal health and wellbeing. This session will explore

  • How to have a conversation 
  • The 4 A's of MECC (Ask, Assess, Advise, Act)
  • Key topics and sources of support (smoking, alcohol, financial awareness, healthy eating, drugs, mental health, physical activity and domestic abuse)
  • Self-care and looking after your own mental wellbeing

Child safety / unintentional injury

Description: This exciting new training which is part of the County Durham Strategy for the Prevention of Unintentional Injuries in Children and Young People will raise awareness of some of the main causes of accidents to children and will explore how you can promote home safety messages to parents and carers.  Practitioners will gain access to a suite of downloadable resources to support the training.
