Leisure memberships - terms and conditions

We offer a range of different memberships across our leisure centres - see below our terms and conditions.

There are different terms and conditions, depending on your membership type (gym, swimming, fitness class, Young Lifestyle, Student) and contract (whether you sign up for a 12 month contract, or pay monthly (no contract).

Gym memberships

Our gym memberships give you access to up to five gyms (depending on your membership group), free swimming and fitness classes.

We have four gym membership groups. The group membership you have determines which leisure centres you have unlimited access to (ie during opening and general swim times). These groups are:

Group 1 (Freeman's Quay (Durham City), Newton Aycliffe, Shildon-Sunnydale, Spennymoor, Teesdale (Barnard Castle))
Group 2 (Shildon-Sunnydale, Teesdale)
Group 3 (Abbey, Meadowfield, Chester-le-Street, Woodhouse Close, Riverside)
Group 4 (Consett, The Louisa Centre (Stanley))
Group 5 (Wolsingham)
Group 6 (Seaham and Peterlee)

Each membership also includes:

free 1:1 personal programme
free sauna and steam where available
£1 swimming at leisure centres not included in your group
discounted group exercise classes at leisure centres not included in your group

Swimming membership

A swimming membership gives you unlimited swimming (during general swimming times) at any of our pools at Consett, Freeman's Quay, The Louisa Centre (Stanley), Spennymoor, Newton Aycliffe, Teesdale, Chester-le-Street leisure centres and Woodhouse Close Leisure Complex.

Young Lifestyle membership

If you're between 11 and 15 years old, our Young Lifestyle gym membership will give you access to the gym and some group fitness classes at one of our leisure centres (you choose) and swimming across our eight pools. Please note that some group fitness classes have an age limit, check with your leisure centre for confirmation.

A wellbeing membership gives you access to our community classes, Walk Durham, Run Durham and Cycle Durham activities.

Invite a friend

When you recommend a friend to sign up to a 12 month contract you will get an extra month added to your membership free of charge.

Thrive card

You can use our Thrive card to gain access to exclusive discounts at our leisure centres.

Leisure Hub

Leisure Hub offers you 24/7 access to your leisure account online. View what's on, book activities, make payments and manage your membership.
