Chester-le-Street Masterplan consultation
We are seeking your views on the draft Chester-le-Street Masterplan which sets out a future vision for Chester-le-Street town centre until 2025.
Over the years, we have prepared a series of Masterplans or Regeneration Frameworks for each of the 12 largest towns in the county. These documents help to guide investment and improvements to towns and set out how our towns and town centres can develop in the future.
We are looking to create a new masterplan for Chester-le-Street. While the focus of the masterplan is the town centre area, it is recognised that the town centre can be supported by developing links to other local destinations and the development of key sites in the town and this is reflected in the document.
What are we proposing?
The Chester-le-Street Masterplan sets out a future vision for the town centre up until 2025. The Masterplan includes a series of objectives for the town centre and contains an action plan to meet these objective and realise the vision. Comments are sought on the vision, objectives and other content of this document in order to inform the final version of the Masterplan.
In recognition of the size of the town centre, the Masterplan also identifies a number of separate zones, which are the focus of actions. These zones have distinct characteristics, roles and potential opportunities. The Masterplan also identifies 'sustainable transport zones' which seek to improve linkages to the Riverside Park and Emirates Durham International Cricket Ground
