Apply for a secondary school place

You can apply for a secondary school place for your child in County Durham for September 2022 now.

How to apply

Apply using our Parent Portal - anyone who applied for a place prior to September 2016 will need to create an account. This is the quickest way to apply and you'll receive immediate confirmation that your application has been submitted. We encourage you to apply online wherever possible as many of our staff are working from home due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

If you are unable to apply online you can contact us by email or phone and we will send you one.

We strongly advise you to read our  Icon for pdf Primary and Secondary School Admission Guide 2022/2023 (PDF, 4.0mb)  as it explains everything you need to know about obtaining a secondary school place for your child for September 2022.

We have two tutorial videos available on our YouTube channel to assist if you have difficulty with our online system. These can be viewed using the following links:

Application deadline

Applications will close on Sunday 31 October 2021.

Please note - a late application, ie after 31 October 2021, greatly reduces your chances of getting into your preferred school.

Offer of a place

The offer of a school place will be made on 1 March 2022.

Apply by post or email

Due to the situation with Coronavirus, staff are generally working from home. If you are unable to use the online form, contact us by email or phone and we will send you one. If possible, please could you email the form to schooladmissions@durham.gov.uk.
