Make Your Mark

Young people aged between 11 and 19 years old can vote on issues that are important to them and the top three issues nationally are debated in the House of Commons by the UK Youth Parliament. 

2,204 votes were cast by young people in County Durham in 2020 and the main priorities were (these were massively impacted on due to Covid-19 restrictions):

• free university
• support our mental health
• stop plastic pollution 

Local issues were also collected and have been shared with schools, colleges and Area Action Partnership groups.

Our Youth Council will be discussing some of these priorities as will a wide range of young people at our youth summits.
