Request a fishing permit


You need a permit to do course fishing on the River Wear at Chester-le-Street Riverside Park Side.

Who can request a permit

To request a permit, you must hold a valid EA Rod License Number and be able to provide the date of expiry for rod license.

Permit cost

A one-day permit costs £3.65 payable at the time of purchase.

How to buy a permit

Contact us to request a permit.

You can buy a fishing permit online for any date up to 14 March 2021. Once we've processed your request we'll email the permit to you.

If you are buying a permit for a Saturday, Sunday or bank holiday, please note that we will not process any permits after 3.00pm on Friday, until the following Monday at 9.00am. Until you receive your permit by email, you are not allowed to fish on the river.

Using your permit

The permit is only valid on the date requested and cannot be transferred or exchanged. You must be able to show the permit, whether it's a printed copy or electronic copy (on your phone).

You may not keep any of your catches - you must catch and release.

Where you are allowed to fish with your permit

River Wear, on the Park side of the river only, from the Cong Burn upstream to Crichton Avenue. 

These boundaries are strictly enforced.
