CCTV to monitor activity at old school building
CCTV has been installed in Stanley to discourage anti-social behaviour at a former school building.
Our Stanley Area Action Partnership (AAP) has provided funding to install CCTV on Beamish Street.
Anti-social behaviour
The cameras will focus on the Old Board School building, situated on Front Street, which has been the subject of anti-social behaviour with people accessing the building, causing damage, and lighting fires.
The AAP has been working with Durham Constabulary to prevent the behaviour, which is affecting businesses on Front Street as well as neighbouring residential areas.
AAP funding
The improvements have been funded by county councillors Joyce Charlton and Gordon Binney, who each contributed £726.50 through their neighbourhood budgets.
Neighbourhood budgets for the area are delivered through the AAP.
Daniel O'Brien, Stanley AAP coordinator, said: "Accessing empty buildings unauthorised not only risks the health and safety of those carrying out the behaviour, but it also has an adverse effect on the community; impacting on business owners, residents, and the time of police officers and neighbourhood wardens.
"This CCTV will assist in identifying those who are entering the site as well as acting as a deterrent and protecting the building from further damage."
