Due to essential maintenance, the following systems will be unavailable from 3.00pm on Friday 31 March until 8.00am Monday 3 April 2023: our online council tax, business rates and housing benefit services, and our welfare assistance form. You will also not be able to register to pay council tax online, make a change of address for council tax or cancel single person discount. You are still able to make a payment during this time. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Free afternoon parking in Durham City's on-street pay and display bays will come to an end on Friday 31 March 2023 at 6.00pm and normal charges will apply from Saturday 1 April 2023. All council owned car parks will continue to offer free parking after 2.00pm. This does not include Durham City Park and Ride, Hardwick Park, Wharton Park and Riverside Park (South Ropery Lane, North Ropery Lane and the Donald Owen Clark car parks) and car parks that we do not own.

Parking policy

PATROL

Parking and Traffic Regulations Outside of London (PATROL) provide information on parking and bus lane enforcement on behalf of councils in England (outside London) and Wales.

We are a member of the PATROL Adjudication Joint Committee. The committee publishes an annual statement of accounts, which is subject to external audit, and you can find these on the PATROL website.
