Aycliffe Secure Centre - information for parents and carers

The decision to place your child at Aycliffe Secure Centre could be for many reasons. Our role is to keep them safe while our care staff and professionals assess their needs to let us work with them.

This work is aimed at giving them the skills to make good choices in the future. You will be kept up to date regularly as we get to know your child.

Our centre is rated as 'Outstanding for Children's Health and Good in all other areas' by Ofsted.

Homes within the centre

Our centre has five individual homes and each home can accommodate up to 8 young people. Every young person has their own ensuite bedroom and are encouraged to make it their own with pictures and posters. Each house has its own lounge and dining room where our young people can eat together and socialise.

Physical and mental wellbeing

Physical exercise is a real focus at Aycliffe so we have a great range of facilities including a gym, swimming pool, all weather sports pitch and courtyards for games and activities. Our gym includes running machines, cross trainers, cycling machines and rowing machines - it is used as part of our educational offer and can be accessed during leisure time.

Feeling well mentally and physically is something we want for all our young people so we have medical and dental facilities on site and excellent links with a local optician.

Education

We recognise the importance of a varied educational programme and we've got that covered.

The following are included:

  • Core (Functional English, maths and IT)
  • GCSE pathways
  • NVQs
  • Creative (art, music, drama)
  • PE, PSHCE, personal care
  • Small animal care

Keep in touch

We know how important continued contact with family members and carers is, so we have three private visiting rooms. We also have video conferencing equipment to enable court appearances, care planning meetings and educational reviews.
