Changes to bus timetables and routes


Passengers are advised to wear a face covering when using public transport in England.

Planned service changes

Go North East - from 8 August 2022

  • Service X11 -  suspended from 8 August 2022

Arriva North East - from 7 August 2022

Arriva is making the following changes to local bus services in County Durham from 7 August 2022:

  • Service 22 - Durham to Sunderland - revised Monday to Saturday timetable with daytime frequency of service between Peterlee and Sunderland reduced to hourly.
  • Service 23 - Hartlepool to Sunderland - revised Monday to Saturday timetable with daytime frequency of service between Peterlee and Sunderland reduced to hourly.
  • Service 49/49A - Durham to Brandon - revised Monday to Saturday timetable with daytime frequency of service revised to every 20 minutes.

Go North East - from 24 July 2022

Go North East made changes to many local bus services in County Durham and Tyne and Wear from 24 July 2022. Details of these changes and revised timetables are available on the Go North East website.  

The council has also intervened to secure whole, or parts of, services which will be provided by Go North East and other operators:

  • Service 25 Langley Park to Newcastle - to be replaced by a new service 725 between Langley Park and Chester-le-Street operated by Weardale Motor Services and service 25 between Chester-le-Street and Newcastle operated by Go North East.
  • Service 30 Stanley to Quaking Houses - to be operated by JH Travel with existing route and timetable.
  • Service 31 East Stanley to Stanley - to be operated by JH Travel with existing route and timetable.
  • Service 28/28A Chester-le-Street to Newcastle - to be replaced by new service 28 (via Birtley) and service 29 (via Kibblesworth) operated by Go North East.
  • Go North East Day, Weekly and Flexi 5 tickets will be accepted on all of these services.
