We are aware that there is currently a scam text message being circulated informing people that they have an outstanding Penalty Charge Notice (PCN). Please be aware that we will never send a text message asking you to pay a PCN. If you do receive a parking fine, a sticker with relevant contact details will be placed on your car and/or you will receive a letter.

Pay for parking

How to pay for a parking space at one of our car parks or pay and display parking.

There are several ways that you can pay for a parking space for our car parks and pay and display parking:

  • use your phone (PayByPhone)
  • cash
  • contactless payments (where provided)

Please note that we do not use QR codes for any payment methods in any of our pay and display car parks or spaces.

Clear information is displayed on the signs at the ticket machines.

Note our Durham City Park and Ride sites are not covered by this.

PayByPhone

PayByPhone enables you to pay for and manage your parking tickets online or over the phone. It works across all of our (council run) car parks and on street pay and display areas.

A unique parking location number will be clearly marked on the ticket machine. You just need to enter this into the system, with your car registration number and credit / debit card.

There is a 15p transaction fee for using the PayByPhone facility.
