Spennymoor Festival Walk redevelopment

Festival Walk, located in the heart of Spennymoor town centre, is being redeveloped following a £600,000 investment from ourselves.

As part of ongoing regeneration work across the county, we hope that town centre transformation will help attract more shoppers and businesses to County Durham.

What's happening

To encourage more people to visit and shop in the town, attract new businesses and offer more choice to shoppers, work began on site at the end of 2020, with the first phase of demolition beginning in February 2021. This work includes:

  • creating a new, free to use, town centre car park on the former Kwik Save site
  • a large part of the existing site will be demolished to create a new larger ALDI store (replacing Spennymoor's current ALDI store, which the supermarket has said it has outgrown)
  • current ALDI store will be re-let
  • developers Hellens Group will refurbish the remaining units to provide a more up to date retail space

In addition to investing in the new car park, we're planning to improve the town's Market Place which sits in front of Festival Walk to offer a more appealing and welcoming environment to visitors and provide a more positive first impression.

Car park availability

The town's Kingfisher car park is open until Christmas but it will close after Christmas when demolition work starts. All other car parking sites will continue operating as normal during construction works. Check Spennymoor car parks for further information about the car parks available in the town.

We hope the new look Festival Walk will be ready to welcome shoppers, businesses and visitors by autumn 2021.
