Proposals in more detail

Pool changing

We proposed to update the existing pool changing rooms into a modern and family friendly changing facilities.

Reception area

We proposed to refurbish the current reception area, to include a new reception desk, shop, and food and drink sales.

Wellbeing and toning suite

We proposed to include a new wellbeing suite to provide a range of specialist equipment aimed at residents who are older, suffering from a long-term health condition, or who are new to exercise or returning to exercise. This space will be in addition to the gym, and it will very much be a space for people to improve their health - physically, mentally and socially - through a shared experience with other people in similar circumstances. The wellbeing suite will help more people to become more active, improve their overall health and may be the necessary stepping stone for some of them to gain confidence and start to use some of the wider leisure facilities.

Squash court

We proposed to change the use of the squash court to create the wellbeing space. We will support users affected by this change to facilities elsewhere.

General refurbishments

There will be other areas of the centre where essential maintenance will improve the overall visitor experience, including the pool plant room, gym changing areas, sports hall and corridors.

Floor plan

See the  Teesdale Leisure Centre proposed floor plan (PDF) [1MB]  for how the space will be laid out.

Have your say

The closing date for comments was 5.00pm on Friday 12 November 2021.

Consultation outcomes

We would like to thank everyone who gave us their feedback on proposals to make changes to Teesdale Leisure Centre. There was lots of interest shown through our digital survey, social media channels, face to face sessions and through several special interest groups.

The feedback has now been looked at and has helped shape how we take the work forward. The following has been agreed:

  • The proposals will proceed broadly as planned to introduce the changes to the facilities and activities.
  • There were many comments about the future activity programme. Now that the facilities and activity offer have been confirmed, we are now in a position to review the programme and we will take your comments into account where possible. This will be shared with customers and residents as it develops.
  • Comments were received about the proposed new changing village for the pool and the lack of privacy. We will look at how to include more private areas and facilities, as well as how best to integrate the pool and dry changing rooms.

We are looking to start the work later this year. Full details of start date, length of work and the impact it will have on access to the leisure centre during that time will be publicised as soon as the final details are confirmed. This will be shared with you through this website, at the centre, and directly with leisure centre members, clubs and groups.
