Full Circle - support for children and families before and after adoption

Adopting a child can be an exciting and challenging but challenging time. We can work with you throughout the whole process. This could include helping you understand the needs of the child, how you can meet those needs and offer support to you.

For families who have already adopted (or have child living with them but awaiting an Adoption Order) we can support you to provide a safe, loving home for your child. We can also offer support if challenges come along - often children who have been adopted have experienced trauma or adverse experiences both before and after birth, which can affect their day to day functioning and emotional wellbeing. Some of these needs may not be seen until later and we can offer support to help you understand and navigate these challenges both at home and in other areas such as education, to support you as a family and your child in the healing process.

Our team consists of therapeutically trained social workers, a consultant clinical psychologist and a clinical nurse specialist. All staff are trained and have the appropriate checks and registrations.

Support we can offer

We support parents by providing information, advice, training and tailored support. This will help you to understand the impact of difficult and traumatic childhood experiences and how you can support stability and healing for your child.

We also work with children and young people to help them look back and make sense of what happened, or to find ways to cope with and better manage their emotions and reactions in the here and now. We can work with the child and parents/carers together using a range of appropriate methods to support the whole family.

We can also work with you to create therapeutic letters, stories and explanations that we write very carefully to help explain even the most difficult things to children and young people, because knowing and understanding can help with healing.
