Chairman's chains of office


The Chairman's chain and badge are worn at all Durham County Council civic events.

The Chairman's chain

The chain and badge make up the 'insignia' of the Chairman of Durham County Council. They date from 1964 and were designed by Thomas Fattorini Ltd of Birmingham.

The chain

The Chairman's Chain of Office is made up of 18 links, each with a central symbol depicting industries, occupations, historical and natural features significant to County Durham.

The badge

The badge is made up of gold and blue enamel and shows the coat of arms of the council.
