Delivering Better Value - your feedback on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) services
Help us improve SEND services in County Durham.
Thank you to those that took part in this consultation. Your comments have now been used to help us to prepare an implementation plan which will be included in a grant application to the Department for Education, due to be submitted at the end of June 2023.
Background
The Department for Education (DfE) launched a two year programme called the Delivering Better Value in SEND Programme in June 2022 to help local councils' improve their SEND services for children and young people and make sure they are sustainable.
We were one of 55 councils invited to take part and we joined the programme in January 2023.
What's happening now
We are talking to partners, front line staff, schools and educational settings, parents and carers to build a picture of how children and young people with SEND use our services and their experience of them. We will use this information to identify key themes and create a new implementation plan for SEND.
To support the plan, we will apply for a DfE grant so we can improve SEND services.
Your views
At this stage we are not consulting on any proposed changes. We want the views of parents or carers as well as schools and educational settings to make sure we're focusing on the right areas.
The feedback deadline was 5.00pm on Monday 15 May 2023.
