Education for children out of school or in hospital due to medical or mental health needs

We can offer teaching sessions at a location near to your home, or if necessary, in your home. We will work closely with your child's school to make sure that they follow the right programmes of study. We will support integration back in to school as soon as possible following advice from a medical professional as this will help prevent any further interruption to their education.

We also provide small group teaching provision for pupils who are pregnant or have recently given birth up until the baby is 12 weeks old.

If a pupil is admitted to hospital we offer teaching in a ward classroom at University Hospital of North Durham (UHND). Bedside teaching is available where necessary.

We aim to:

• raise your child's aspiration, educational progress and achievement
• engage them in education and/or prepare them for employment or training
• improve their emotional wellbeing.

Our Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and our Local Offer information has been developed to allow parents, carers and young people to see more clearly what services are available locally to meet their educational needs and/or disabilities from birth to age 25.

We can deliver training and advice on how specific conditions affect pupils' learning when in school.
