About Empowering Parents Empowering Communities (EPEC) in Durham

Group leaders are trained and supported by parenting specialists, including professionals in the NHS and the council. EPEC groups will help mams, dads, carers and other family members to  understand their children's needs and development, and look for ways to help their children develop, as well as to look after themselves.

We have a range of groups/courses that support families with children from birth, right through to being teenagers, including:

• Being a Parent - for parents and carers of children aged 2-11
• Parent Group Leader (PGL)
• Baby and Us - for new parents and carers with babies under 1 year old
• Being a Parent of a child with Autism

Our courses will help you to develop skills to:

• listen, communicate and interact more effectively with your children
• create closer relationships with your children
• accept and manage your feelings 
• help your child to develop
• respond to your child's behaviour (especially where it is difficult/challenging)
• look after your own wellbeing and health.

All of the courses are highly interactive, involving small and large group discussion, role play, demonstrations, information sharing and reflection. You will be able to practice and use your new skills in everyday life to achieve specific goals.
