Lumiere 16-19 November 2023


Lumiere, the UK's light art biennial returns from Thursday 16 November to Sunday 19 November 2023, when Durham will become a nocturnal art experience hosting works made with light on its streets, bridges, buildings and river.

This includes iconic locations such as Market Place, Durham Cathedral's UNESCO World Heritage Site, the prestigious Durham University campus and new for this year historic Bishop Auckland town centre.

Over 40 installations will light up the city

Lumiere 2023 will host its biggest programme yet, led by world-renowned artists Ai Weiwei and Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, the programme features over 40 installations that will illuminate the City.

This year the programme extends beyond the city with a satellite programme in Bishop Auckland, this will be part of a regular biennial spotlight on the wider Durham County.
