Energy Efficiency, Renewables and the Historic Environment Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) consultation
We want your views on our new document, which sets out guidance for property owners considering making energy efficiency or renewable energy improvements within the historic environment, for example buildings which are listed, non-designated heritage buildings and properties within conservation areas.
Thank you to all who responded to the consultation on the first draft of this document, which took place late 2023. Feedback will be considered as part of the drafting of the next version of the document and consulted on May/June 2024.
The County Durham Plan (CDP) was adopted in October 2020. It provides a framework for new planning developments and helps to assess planning applications up to 2035. This draft SPD supports a range of policies in the CDP.
What the SPD includes
The SPD includes work to listed buildings, non-designated heritage buildings, and to properties in conservation areas. The document includes:
- Heritage and planning context.
- Fundamental principles of energy efficiency.
- Energy generation and opportunities around renewable energy systems.
Have your say
The closing date for comments was 5.00pm on 3 December 2023.
What happens next
Responses to the consultation will be considered in drafting the next version of the document. We will then consult again in Spring 2024. Any final amendments to the document will be considered and justified before completion and approval. Once approved, the SPD will be adopted and will be used to assess planning applications.
