Last reminder to check voter information in County Durham
County Durham residents are being reminded for the final time to check their voter registration information or risk losing their right to vote in future elections.
As part of our annual electoral canvass, final reminder forms are being issued to all households which have not yet confirmed their details.
Forms were initially sent to all properties at the end of July asking people to check that the information we hold for them is accurate. This was followed up with door-to-door enquiries and delivery of a second reminder form where necessary.
We are now issuing one final reminder for residents to ensure they are eligible to vote in upcoming elections. These include The Police and Crime Commissioner election and a potential election for the Combined Authority Mayor in May 2024, and the next UK Parliamentary General Election, which must be held before the end of January 2025.
Act if changes needed
Linda Spence, our electoral services manager, said: "It's important that our residents have their say in elections, but they can only do that if they are registered to vote.
"We sent each household in the county a copy of the information we hold about the people living there, by post or email. Anyone whose name did not appear on that form, or whose details are incorrect, will not be eligible to vote, so it's vital that people let us know of any changes that are needed."
Anyone who has recently moved or whose details are not included on the form, can register online to vote at Register to vote through Gov.uk They can also Contact Electoral Services.
