A690 landslip repair

Preparatory works are underway alongside the A690 ahead of an essential landslip repair scheme. The works are taking place within the verge of the A690's north eastbound carriageway, north east of Gilesgate roundabout, at the boundary with the Northern Powergrid training centre.

Work that will be happening

Preparatory works will include ground investigations, vegetation clearance and tree felling  and are anticipated to last for several months. The main works, which involve stabilising the embankment alongside the road, will commence in the summer.

The design will be completed following the initial ground investigation works, but it is expected to take the form of an anchored contiguous piled wall. This will be centred on the northern embankment of the A690 carriageway and able to sustain the future operation of the highway. Consideration will be given to a replanting scheme at the end of the project.
