Fly into Gala Durham with Peter Pan and Wendy

Published July 17, 2024 9.00am

Families are invited to fly into County Durham this summer for a magical theatre production.

The stage is being set for Gala Durham's Peter Pan and Wendy, featuring a modern twist on J.M Barrie's classic tale.

A unique telling of a classic tale

Featuring a North East based cast, the production opens at our venue this week. It brings together all the favourite characters from the original story, as Wendy finds herself lost in an enchanted forest and meets a magical boy called Peter and a beautiful fairy called Tinker Bell.

Together, a real adventure begins, with pirates and Captain Hook chasing after them, before Wendy soon realises that what's really important might be waiting back at home.

Peter Pan and Wendy is running until Saturday 27 July, with a British Sign Language interpreted and captioned performance also available on Friday 26 July at 6.30pm.

'A great outing for families'

Sarah Glynn, our strategic manager for culture, said: "We are so excited to share the magic of Peter Pan and Wendy via our latest production. It truly is a unique and magical re-telling of a much-loved classic tale that is full of fun and adventure.

"A visit to Gala Durham will offer a great outing for families over the summer holidays. With the production being suitable for children aged five and over, it's also a fantastic opportunity to introduce little ones to the magic of theatre and spark their love for the arts."

Tickets are priced from £18, with family ticket offers also available. To book, visit Gala Durham or call the Gala Durham Box Office on 03000 266 600.

The production has been adapted by Laura Turner, who previously adapted last summer's Gala Durham production of Alice in Wonderland. Meanwhile, Rachel Glover also returns for Peter Pan and Wendy, having previously directed Alice in Wonderland and last year's spellbinding pantomime, Cinderella.

Peter Pan will be performed by County Durham actor Lucas Bradley Benson, who is from Consett, while Wendy will be played by Lucy Davis.

Meanwhile, Rosie Stancliffe and Kieron Michael will return to Gala Durham. Having previously starred in last year's Cinderella pantomime, Rosie will take on the role of Cassandra and Kieron will star as Captain Hook having performed as The Mad Hatter in last summer's Alice in Wonderland.

Other cast members include Meena Al-Nawrasy as Smee and Jordan Larkin as Nibs.
