News- Praise for County Durham pupils on A level results day

We are commending pupils for their efforts, with average grades across the county being in line with 2023.

This year, the average grade achieved at A Level is an impressive B-, while the average grade for Applied General qualifications is Distinction+. The average grade for Tech Level qualifications is Distinction-. These are all above national averages and support a strong record of performance over a five-year period.

Feedback from schools has been very positive regarding high proportions of students achieving their first-choice applications to university whilst others are already finding their feet within an exciting range of apprenticeship and employment opportunities.

Immensely proud 

Cllr Ted Henderson, our Cabinet member for children and young people's services, said: "We're immensely proud of everyone in the county who has received their results today and would like to congratulate them for their commitment to their studies.

"Today's results reflect the hard work of each and every pupil. They're also testament to the county's schools and colleges for their dedication to our children and young people and we are very grateful for that.

"We hope that all students are celebrating their achievement today. However, I'd remind everyone that great opportunities lie ahead whatever your results are. They do not determine your future potential or prevent you from following your dreams so please be resilient and remember that there is a great deal of support available across County Durham."
