Rookhope Primary School building and playing fields
We are seeking your views on a proposal to change the use of the land of the former Rookhope Primary School and playing fields.
Background
Following the closure of the former Rookhope Primary School, we are proposing to change the use of the site which consists of 0.4781 hectares of land. In order to do this, we are required by the Secretary of State to consult with the community.
To date, we have followed the statutory guidance and placed notices around the site and placed an advert in The Northern Echo newspaper. The notices will be in place for eight weeks until Friday 6 September 2024.
The proposal
A recommendation has been made for the playing field to become open space for use by the public and for the building to be converted into a business centre, which would be managed by us.

The closing date for comments is 5.00pm on Friday 6 September 2024.
What happens next
Following this statutory consultation period, all information regarding the proposed change of use for the site, including consultation comments received and responses provided will be submitted to the Secretary of State for consideration. Written consent is required from the Secretary of State before we can take forward the recommendations for the site.
