Family hardship

Our Financial Coaching Team operates across County Durham, assisting residents in making smarter financial decisions to improve their overall well-being. Our advisers primarily focus on tackling family hardship, particularly among working families who may struggle to provide for their children's basic needs in the future.

Our Financial Capability sessions are especially valuable for individuals with low disposable income or those that have poor spending habits. Our team offers advice and guidance to help people better understand their financial situation and provides straightforward strategies for increasing income, reducing expenses, and planning for the future.

Our team can help people gain a deeper understanding of:

  • The financial support options available
  • How to make informed spending decisions
  • Effective financial management and understanding long-term costs
  • Negotiating with service providers and exploring switching options
  • Planning for the future and realising the benefits of saving

We also offer collaborative opportunities with businesses, charities, schools, colleges, agencies such as the DWP and other family support agencies.

To find out how your organisation can access our Financial Ability workshops, please contact us at savers@durham.gov.uk. Applications are especially welcome from local community centres, schools and local businesses.
