Tanfield Lea Solar Farm

The system was carefully sized to maximize renewable electricity generation without producing significant excess during the summer months, minimising the need to send surplus power to the grid.

Timeline of progress

• February 2019: The solar development was approved by the county planning committee.
• March 2019: Planning commenced, and construction of the project began.
• September 2021: The project was completed and became operational.

Located near Tanfield Lea Industrial Estate and commissioned by the council, the solar farm provides a significant portion of the electricity needed to power Comeleon House, a nearby council facility. The farm's 800 panels are capable of generating 213,000 kWh of electricity annually, contributing to the council's goal of reducing its carbon footprint.
