OCNLR Level 2 Award in Supporting Activity in Social Care


Delivered in partnership with Durham Learn, this course will provide comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the potential benefits for individuals in social care of engaging in both every day and programmed activities. Activity provision for people who live in a care setting can make a significant contribution to their well-being and quality of life. Simple activities such as taking a walk, playing cards, listening to the radio, or looking after a pet can help give pleasure and bring purpose to the day.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification. However, learners must be aged 16 or over to enrol on the course.

Who the course is for?

This course is designed for anyone who works or would like to work in a care setting and will be ideal for those responsible for co-ordinating and delivering activities to individuals and groups.

It is particularly relevant for learners who wish to increase their understanding of the significance of activity to person-centred care.

Whilst the main focus is on working with older people in residential care settings, the skills developed are transferable and equally relevant for those delivering day care and domiciliary-based care.

Learning Method 

To complete this course learners will complete activity workbooks, which have been produced to suit a wide range of delivery methods.

Learners will be provided with all the necessary workbooks to complete the programme and will be required to work through a series of tasks and activities designed to reinforce the learning process and test their knowledge.

The learning materials include an assessment, which demonstrates achievement of all learning outcomes associated with each unit.

In order to successfully achieve the qualification, the learner must achieve a total of 8 credits, from which 6 credits must be achieved from the mandatory units. Learners will also achieve an optional unit inaccordance with the specific learning pathway they wish to follow.
