Changes to how we manage applications for school travel assistance
We're making improvements to our application process for home to school travel assistance to make it quicker and easier for families.
What is changing
We used to ask families to sign and return paper forms to us. Now, if you have given us your email address or mobile number, we'll send you a text or email instead.
This is how the process will work:
- You will receive a message with a secure link, where you will be asked some basic security questions.
- You can then check your child's details.
- You can then accept, decline or opt out of the offer of home to school travel assistance.
- You will then receive confirmation of your response.
If we don't have an email or mobile number for you, don't worry - you'll still get a letter and printed application form in the post. These forms can be signed and returned by post, or alternatively, a photo of the signed form can be emailed directly to the school transport team at schooltransportteam@durham.gov.uk.
If you haven't heard from us by 1 April 2025, you can complete an application online at Apply for free home to school travel.
This change means a quicker, easier, and more efficient process for everyone.
