Bishop Auckland Food Festival - what's affected
As a result of Bishop Auckland Food Festival, which takes place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 April 2025, there will be some traffic obstructions in place. These will be in place from 5.00am on Friday 11 April 2025 until 9.00pm Sunday 13 April 2025.
During this time, some roads will be closed to all traffic including pedal cycles and motorcycles, with the exception of emergency vehicles, a restricted number of event vehicles, residents requiring access/exit to and from the Market Place via North Bondgate and traders on production of a relevant pass for unloading/loading only before being removed to an offsite car park between the hours of 5.00am Friday 11 April and 11.00pm on Sunday 13 April 2025.
It will also be necessary to:
- Prohibit vehicular traffic from waiting at any time on Woodhouse Lane between number 159-171 (southern side of the road).
- Suspend the taxi rank on the south side of the Market Place southern service road.
Road closures
- Fore Bondgate between its junctions with the bollard adjacent to Finkle Street and its junction with Newgate Street
- Castle Chare (north westbound only) from its junction with Durham Road/Kingsway to the circulatory carriageway of Market Place southern circulatory road
- Market Place southern service road that extends westerly from Castle Chare
- Market Place southern circulatory road that extents westerly passed St Annes Church to and including the Market Place western circulatory road - to its junction with North Bondgate
- The Market Place link road (Newgate St - Market Place)
- North Bondgate between the egress from the North Bondgate Car Park and the junction with Wear Chare.
Park and ride
An accessible park and ride service will be in operation for visitors which will run between Bishop Auckland College and George Street in the town centre.
- Buses will depart from Bishop Auckland College from 9.30am on Saturday and Sunday.
- The last returning buses will depart from George Street in the town centre at 5.30pm on Saturday and 4.30pm on Sunday.
- Return tickets cost £2.50 for adults, 50p for children aged five to 15 years old and are free for those under five.
Car parks
Bishop Auckland car parks will be open, but they are expected to be busy, and be aware of diversions due to road closures for the event.
