Compulsory purchasing of houses

We can be granted the power to buy or take rights over private property if it falls within a public or private construction project, such as a road improvement scheme or regeneration project.

Different compulsory purchase or statutory powers are needed for different schemes, for example a road bypass would do it through the Acquisition of Land Act 1981.

In all cases the owner and occupiers of the properties to be acquired or affected by the scheme will be served notices, but the scheme will affect the expiry times.

All the schemes provide compensation to owners and occupiers directly affected by the scheme.
