Petrol storage (domestic)

This page has information about the storage of petrol in domestic premises.

You are only allowed to store petrol in the following containers and amounts:

  • You can store up to 30 litres of petrol in approved 20 litre metal containers and approved 10 litre plastic containers in a safe place (not in living accommodation).

You should not, in any circumstances, keep petrol in 25 litre jerry cans.

Remember, petrol is highly flammable and explosive. Don't put yourself and others in danger.
