European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF)

The European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) are the EU's main funding programmes for supporting growth and jobs across the EU.

Under the new European Structural and Investment Fund (ESIF) Growth Programmes 2014-2020, County Durham is set to benefit from:

  • a ring-fenced allocation of 156 million euros as a transition region, from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund (ESF)
  • 9 million euros through the Youth Employment Initiative (YEI)
  • a share of a regional allocation of 13.1 million euros under the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), (which funds the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE)), and 4.646 million euros from two LEADER programmes covering rural areas of County Durham, Northumberland, Gateshead and Sunderland

The programme presents a significant opportunity for investment in the County to boost economic recovery and contribute to the ambitions of the North East Local Enterprise Partnership. Through the County Durham Partnership: Economic Partnership (CDEP), we take the lead in ensuring County Durham fully benefits from these new opportunities.
