Garden waste collections

You can find detailed information in this section on the garden waste collection service including how to subscribe and use the scheme, which properties are eligible and other ways to dispose of garden waste.

  1. Check MyDurham to find out if your property is eligible.
  2. Subscribe and pay for the garden waste collection scheme.

Please make sure you have read our garden waste terms and conditions for 2019 first.

Read our step by step guide to using the garden waste collection service.

Cost of service

Once you subscribe, we'll arrange for your collections to start as soon as possible from the start of the scheme, and you will receive the number of collections left for that year. We can't accept subscriptions for the 2019 scheme after 2 September 2019.

The cost for 2019 is £35. If you signed up for three years in 2018, you do not have to pay again for 2019.

The fees are for the collection of one garden waste bin. If your property has not previously received the garden waste collection service and you do not have a garden waste bin, we will provide your first bin free of charge.

If you would like more than one garden waste bin, each additional bin will cost £20. You will also need to pay the subscription fee to empty each additional bin.

You can share a bin with a neighbour, but we are not responsible for any arrangements you make to do this.

Stickers and calendars

We will issue your garden waste sticker within 10 working days of receipt of payment.

If you do not receive a calendar, sticker or bin and you have paid for the service, you can report this using the garden waste enquiry form or contact us and quote your garden waste reference number.
