About Aycliffe Secure Centre

Aycliffe Secure Centre is a secure children's home providing high quality, specialist secure accommodation for young people between the ages of 10 and 18.

Our centre houses some of the most vulnerable young people, many of whom have complex problems and need intensive support to help them turn their lives around.

Who we look after

We provide secure accommodation for up to 38 young people, 8 of whom are sentenced or remanded by the Youth Custody Service and 30 young people are accommodated for their own or other safety under Section 25 of the Children's Act 1989 and are commissioned by local authorities.

We provide each child and young person with a safe, secure and caring home encouraging and inspiring them to be the best they can be in all aspects of their life enabling them to achieve their potential and take their place in society. We help them to make positive differences in their lives through education, healthy lifestyles and reducing risk.

Our mission and priorities

Our mission is to provide each child and young person with a safe, secure, caring home and school. Encouraging and motivating every child and young person to be the best they can be in all aspects of their life.

Our priorities are:

  • improving the health and wellbeing of all children and young people and staff living and working at our centre
  • support every child and young person to transition and re-settle successfully into their community
  • maintain and improve the sustainability and longevity of our centre

Latest inspection

We are proud to announce that our recent full inspection (April 2021) saw inspectors give the centre Outstanding across three areas.

The three areas are:

  • children's health
  • how well children and young people are helped and protected
  • the effectiveness of leaders and managers

We are very proud that the hard work and enduring commitment of our staff to supporting the young people in their care has been recognised in this way.
