How we support shared lives providers

Once you have been approved as a Shared Lives Provider your support manager will continue to support you. They will make sure you have the training and support that you need to fulfil your role.

Support and training

Once you have been approved as a Shared Lives provider you will continue to receive the support and guidance of a dedicated support manager who will make sure you have the training and support that you need to fulfil your role.

A comprehensive and complimentary training programme is provided to all prospective and approved providers ranging from epilepsy awareness, medication and challenging behaviours courses. Provider support meetings are held throughout the year helping everyone to support each other, as well as social events for the family.

Allowances and financial support

As a Shared Lives Provider you are classed as being self employed. You can find information on being self-employed on the HM Revenue and Customs website.

You will receive an allowance for each night you provide care and support in your home for an adult or young person.

Fees from April 2024 are from £464.45 to £506.80 per week for each adult in placement. Fees increase in line with inflation each year. The amount is agreed in advance depending on how much care and support is required to meet the needs of the individual.

This is not a salary, but allows you to fully meet the needs of the person placed with you. The allowance is paid monthly and includes a contribution towards the cost of food and utility bills, such as gas and electricity.

Some of the allowance you receive is exempt from tax. Your support manager will give you more information on this.
