Shared Lives is a service that matches adults and young people (aged over 16 years) with additional care and support needs with an approved Shared Lives provider, who shares their home and community life. It offers the opportunity for the person to live in a family environment instead of in residential care, supported housing or being supported by a team of support workers.
This may be because they have:
- a learning disability
- mental health needs
- a physical disability or sensory impairment
The level of care varies depending on the person's needs, but usually includes personal care, independence skills and helping them to take part in community activities.
Living with a Shared Lives provider can help people to build and continue friendships and live as part of their local community, giving them a sense of wellbeing in a safe and supportive environment.
