Self-Administration for Intermediate Care Patients


This course discusses the importance of all patient's been given the opportunity to self-administer their medications when under your care. We discuss how to identify that a patient self-administers, what to do to put this in place and what to do if the patient is not managing their medication.

Presented by the Intermediate Care Pharmacy Team. 

Entry Requirements 

Care home must care for Intermediate Care patients.

Who the course is for

All Senior Carers and Nursing staff who manage medication.

Learning method

The course is Face to Face and will take you approximately 30 minutes to complete. Supporting documentation will be given for future reference.

What you will learn

By completing this course, you will:

  • Be able to support patient's to self-administer their medication
  • Be able to identify that a patient is struggling with self-administration and know what to do and who to contact to support you.
  • Understand the importance of maintaining a patient's independence.

  • Gain the confidence and understanding needed to support and encourage patients to self-administer their medications.  
  • Allowing a patient to regain their independence with medication.
