Money off Council Tax for apprentices and National Traineeship trainees

Who can claim

Apprentices

As an apprentice, you may not have to pay as much Council Tax if you're:

• employed for the purposes of learning a trade, business, profession, office, employment or vocation
• completing training which leads to an accredited qualification
• receiving no more than £195 per week before any deductions for tax or national insurance.

National Traineeship trainees

If you're under 25 years old and taking part in a National Traineeship programme, you may not have to pay as much Council Tax.

Individual training plans issued by the training provider and showing the course start and end dates is evidence of trainee status.

Change in circumstances

You must inform us when your apprenticeship/traineeship finishes. If you don't do this, you may receive a fine.
