Potholes

Damaged road surfaces and potholes can cause inconvenience to road users and damage to vehicles.

Help us make repairs quicker

  • Only report a pothole that meets our criteria. The size of the pothole must be at least 300mm across and as deep as a 50p on its side, or a sharp-edged depression in the footpath, as deep as a 20p on its side.
  • Adding a photo will help us inspect the damage and fix repairs quicker.
  • If possible, please use what3words to identify exactly where the repair is needed.

Report a pothole or subsidence on a road or pavement

If there may be any imminent or immediate danger, please call us immediately on 03000 261 000. An out of hours service is available for emergencies.

To minimise the risk of damage and to stop potholes becoming a major hazard, we inspect all the roads we look after on a regular basis. Our How we check our roads are safe will give you more information.

The priority we give to filling a porthole depends on how severe it is and the risk it poses to users. Severity takes into account lots of factors, including size and depth, traffic or pedestrian usage and the position of the pothole.

We aim to fill reported potholes within 14 working days.
