Reading support

Do you know or work with someone who struggles with their reading skills?

Being able to read opens up many opportunities. We are offering reading support for individuals across County Durham with specialist one to one support.

Learn and practise skills like calculating, measuring, and working with fractions, decimals and percentages confidently. Learn how to apply your skills to maths in everyday situations. Whether you want to simply boost your confidence, do a short coursework-based qualification, work towards a Functional Skills exam, or do all three - we have the course for you.

There will be intake dates every six weeks - please contact us today for the next available start date.

Learning Styles

Distance learning will give you access to weekly online tutorial sessions with your tutor and an online learning programme that is tailored to meet your learning needs. You will need access to a computer/laptop and the internet to complete these. Exams will be carried out face to face following government advice and safety measures.

Classroom learning will see you join fellow learners in a classroom environment for face-to-face sessions with your tutor and the change to socialise and make new friends while learning.

Blended learning is a mixture of face-to-face classes and online learning. You will attend sessions in-person with your tutor every six weeks as well as completing a minimum of two hours of your online programme each week in your own time.

Hobbies and interests

All our students are invited to join our hobbies and interests clubs - an opportunity to meet online (and in future, face to face) with other students and staff to share information, ideas and opportunities relating to your own personal interests. We currently have clubs for:

  • pet lovers
  • cooking enthusiasts
  • recycling and sustainability champions
  • book worms
  • film and TV buffs
  • aspiring entrepreneurs
  • photographers
  • those who love a road trip
  • and many more to come...
