Facilities at Aycliffe Secure Centre

Houses

Our centre has five houses. Up to eight young people may live in each home. Each young person has their own room and can put up posters and family pictures. The houses are maintained to a high standard and are made to feel homely and welcoming. They have lounge areas, activity rooms, kitchens, toilets and individual en-suite bedrooms for each young person.

School

Our school is a separate building within the centre and consists of numerous classrooms with specially equipped classrooms for specific subjects such as ICT, Food Technology and Hair and Beauty. The centre also has education areas for car mechanics and building studies. We have a separate library with a good stock of reading and research materials. Exercise and recreation

Exercise and recreation are an important link between emotional and physical wellbeing and physical and mental exercise. We have excellent recreational facilities include a swimming pool, sports hall, gym, outdoor sports courts and large courtyards for games and activities. 

Health

We have medical and dental facilities on site and we have links with a local optician who visits our centre regularly. See our Specialist services at Aycliffe Secure Centre page.

Additional facilities

We have three visiting rooms for young people to meet with their parents and carers.

We also have three video conferencing rooms to enable young people, their carers and professionals to maintain and promote contact. The video conferencing system can also facilitate contact meetings, court appearances, care planning and Personal Education Plan review meetings. These are subject to prior arrangement and approval.
