Disputing a benefit decision

If you are unhappy with a decision made about your benefit claim you can usually challenge it. The ways in which you can challenge a decision vary according to the benefit in question.

Our Disputing a benefit decision factsheet (F04) (PDF) [572KB]  describes what you need to do to challenge a decision. It covers issues such as:

  • time limits
  • how to ask for a reconsideration of a decision
  • how to appeal a decision
  • how to prepare for a hearing
  • what to do at the hearing
  • how to take a case further if it is unsuccessful at a hearing
